What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on identifying and treating the root cause of dysfunction in the body. These dysfunctions can interfere with your body’s natural ability to self-heal and self-regulate. By restoring proper structure and function, osteopathy supports the body’s natural healing processes.
Founded in 1874 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, osteopathy is guided by four foundational principles:
-
The body is a unit.
All systems in the body are interconnected. No part can be treated in isolation—every system influences the others.
-
The body has the ability to self-heal and self-regulate.
Once obstructions are removed, the body can return to balance and function optimally.
-
Structure and function are interrelated.
A change in structure will affect how the body functions, and changes in function can alter structure.
-
Osteopathic treatment is based on these principles.
Each treatment is tailored to the individual, addressing the underlying cause rather than just the symptoms.
Meet Adrienne Lee, M.OMSc
Adrienne Lee is a dedicated Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, passionate about helping people move and feel their best. She holds a Master of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (M.OMSc) from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, a rigorous 4-year program grounded in classical osteopathic principles.
Before pursuing osteopathy, Adrienne earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario in 2013. She has also worked as a personal trainer since 2014, where she witnessed how unresolved pain and restrictions often limited her clients’ performance—even after they had sought care from other health professionals.
This experience drove her to search for a more holistic and effective way to support her clients’ health, leading her to osteopathy. With her combined background in movement science and manual therapy, Adrienne is uniquely equipped to assess the body as a whole and address underlying dysfunctions that may be holding her patients back.
